What does the Semiconductor Manufacturing program offer?

Cleanroom Technician

OPEN NOW! Classroom lectures will cover the semiconductor ecosystem and major processes. This course offers extensive hands-on processing (27 hours) in the CNSI cleanroom on the UCSB campus. Students will process two semiconductor wafers using multiple cleanroom processes, and will gain knowledge of proper documentation and statistical process control.  

This in-depth training will expose students to theoretical and practical approaches to fabrication in a cleanroom. No prior cleanroom experience necessary. It is intended for new entrants to the field, and/or those wanting to upskill their career in the semiconductor industry.

Microchip Fabrication I

This intensive 72-hour program is designed to equip both professionals and novices with essential skills in semiconductor manufacturing. Participants will engage in hands-on training and theoretical instruction, introducing advanced semiconductor fabrication processes, material handling, and quality control within a cleanroom environment.

The course covers key microfabrication techniques, including lithography, growth, etching, and metallization, and offers practical experience in characterizing nMOS devices. By the end of the course, participants will be prepared to contribute to industries such as semiconductors, aerospace, automotive, and heavy machinery with a strong foundation in microfabrication.

Introduction to the Semiconductor Ecosystem

COMING SOON! Learn about leading-edge technology emerging from the Semiconductor Manufacturing Ecosystem on the California Central Coast! Filled with examples of real-world technology from this world-leading region in semiconductor research, development, and manufacturing, this online asynchronous course provides a foundational understanding of how semiconductor devices are manufactured, and what the critical technical job roles are in this industry, including assemblers, operators, technicians, and engineers. This course is intended for students wishing to learn about career pathways into the most advanced hardware development in the world!

Equipment Maintenance Tech

Equipment Maintenance Technician

This unique 72-hour work-learn program provides participants with hands-on experience maintaining and repairing tools, equipment, and facilities in operational semiconductor research and teaching cleanrooms on the UCSB Campus. This course provides the essential skills and proof-of-ability to join the Semiconductor Industry as an Equipment Maintenance Technician.

Tools and equipment engaged in this course include vacuum pumps, vacuum chambers, and photolithography systems. Troubleshooting processes practiced include vacuum system diagnosis, optical performance and calibration, electrical testing, test fixtures and systems, and general troubleshooting approaches.

Why Take the CPA Licensure Prep Summer Program?

In only 10 weeks (June 23 - August 29, 2025), you can fulfill 24 quarter units (16-semester units) toward the California education requirements for CPA licensure. 

Courses are in real time via Zoom in an intense, high-quality sequence, designed to provide the detailed knowledge and skills desirable in a professional accountant. 

Courses cover professionally based material that expands upon the academic accounting curriculum offered by the UCSB Economics Department. 

Courses provide information that broadens student understanding and knowledge of modern business methods and environments. 

Taken together, the four courses in the sequence also cover topics included in the Uniform CPA Examination. 

Who should take the CPA Licensure Prep Summer Program?

The program assumes prior knowledge of cost and financial accounting at a college level; typically students should have completed a bachelor's degree program in accounting or an equivalent number of units in accounting subject matter.

Advanced Auditing and Attestation (ECON X426A)

This course provides in-depth coverage of the theory and practice of the attest role of the accountant. Both auditing and other areas of attesting are addressed. The class provides comprehensive coverage of the entire audit process including engagement planning, audit sampling, audit evidence and the role of technology in the audit. The class also provides coverage of the role and procedures of internal audit. The course is part of a group of four courses that together will provide broad exposure to professional aspects of accounting that are not covered in a traditional college accounting curriculum.

Current Issues in Financial Reporting (ECON X426B)

This course provides a comprehensive study of a range of issues in financial reporting and accounting, including the theoretical and regulatory frameworks of financial statements, recognition, valuation, and measurement of assets, liabilities, equity and income, and the impact of special transactions and events on financial statements.

The Regulatory Framework of Business (ECON X426C)

This course provides comprehensive coverage of both the legal and tax aspects of the business. Tax issues covered will include the taxation of different business entities as well as individuals, and the impact these have on business decisions. The business law component of the class will include legal issues regarding contracts, professional responsibilities, government regulation, and property, among other items.

Special Topics in Accounting (ECON X426D)

This course provides extensive coverage of selected topics including economic theory, accounting for not-for-profit and government entities, cost and managerial accounting and special issues in corporate taxation.

What you'll learn...


Attention UCSB Students

Current UCSB matriculated students eligible for financial aid may need to maintain a minimum of 12 academic units to retain eligibility. Please note that professional units from TMP X101 do not count toward this minimum.

While TMP X101 units may count toward graduation requirements, they will not affect your overall GPA.

To earn degree or unit credit for courses taken through UCSB Professional and Continuing Education, students must order an official transcript from Extension upon course completion and have it sent to the UCSB Office of Admissions at admissions@sa.ucsb.edu.

For questions about this process, please contact the advising team for either the College of Letters and Science or the College of Engineering.

The program can be completed in as little as 3 quarters, but it is generally recommended to spread the coursework over two academic years.
